The Lower Glenelg is highlighted by being a National Heritage River. It is surrounded by National Park in the lower reaches. The Lower Glenelg Basin has a smaller population than other basins due to no major urban centres, the larger towns are Nelson and Dartmoor. Stokes River and the Crawford River flow into the Glenelg in the Lower regions of the River.
