The importance of continuing a regime of regular roadside burning, for the safety of travellers and the regeneration of native grasslands, will be discussed at an online forum for CFA volunteers next week.

This event, on Wednesday 29 September, is designed to inform the community about the value of native grasslands and the vital role fire plays in improving them and reducing risk to communities. It will also serve as opportunity for CFA members to identify priority roadsides for burning.

The online workshop will run from 4.30pm through to 6.30pm.

Birds we might see

The way in which the livestreamed event it filmed means sometimes the birds are a big hard to see close up.

To help show what the birds we are looking at, talking about, and trying to find actually look like, we have added images below to assist with species identification.

Join us for a livestreamed evening paddle around the mouth of the Glenelg River in south-west Victoria and find out why the area where the river meets the sea is one very special place.

Hosted by the Glenelg Hopkins CMA, senior estuary officer Jarred Obst will be giving us an insight into why estuaries are so important, why the animals and plants who inhabit the area need that mix of fresh and sea water, how challenging it can be to balance the delicate needs of the environment, with very real the socio-economic needs of the communities and residents on and around the waterway, and just how difficult it can be if nature doesn’t agree!
