Catchments on the beach with Junior Rangers
Beach catchment learning!
This January, the Winda-Mara Aboriginal Corporation children’s events hit the ground running … literally!
CMA staff and the Junior Rangers were running across the beach at Cape Bridgewater building a catchment in the sand, to show how the rain and water releases from Rocklands Reservoir are so important for the health of the whole river!
Each school holidays, the CMA and Junior Rangers get together to learn about the health of the rivers and catchments in different and interesting ways.
For these holidays, the creation of beach catchments were about leaning about river mouths and estuaries.
By building the rivers on the beach, the Junior Rangers were able to learn about what regulation in a waterway looks like, and how rain and environmental water releases help the river mouths and estuary areas.
