Reusing fire recovery assistance
It’s not amazing that we need to reinstall coir logs on areas of our catchment burnt by fire this summer, but what IS amazing is the regeneration our CMA works crew have had to walk through to retrieve them.
Recently, our CMA works crew have been up around the northern areas of our catchment around Raglan and Cave Hill, which were burnt by bushfires at the end of last Summer, pulling up coir logs to reuse on new fire impacted areas.
The regeneration of the area in less than 12 months, despite it being a dry winter, is extraordinary.
The logs are being installed around the base of the Grampians which were impacted by the Christmas fires for the same reason, to avoid fire ash and sediment being washed into waterways and stock water.
The re-installation of the logs in the Grampians area was made possible thanks to some cooperative work between Bunnings Australia and Southern Grampians Shire Council as part of their role in local fire recovery effects.
