FIRE RECOVERY – EOI for waterway recovery

Glenelg Hopkins CMA has received funding to assist with the immediate recovery needs of waterways following the Yarram Gap Road, Grampians bushfires. The CMA will target works to protect waterways and water quality, within the fire affected areas, including private land.
Heavy rainfall events can result in the runoff of ash and the erosion of exposed soils after fires. These can contaminate waterways, domestic and stock water and reduce dissolved oxygen, potentially creating a black water event.
The Wannon River catchment includes the entire known population of River Blackfish (Upper Wannon form) and for the Western Bush Yabby, along with habitat intersecting with several other threatened aquatic and semi-aquatic fauna.

Activities eligible for funding include:
- Installation of non-permanent erosion control structures (coir logs, silt fences etc) to protect waterways, dams and wetlands in priority areas.
- Waterway bank corridor stock exclusion fencing repair and establishment.
- Waterway bank corridor weed control.
- Waterway bank corridor debris and damaged fence removal.
- Establishment of native plants to provide priority soil stabilisation.

Expressions of interest are welcome now and up to close of business Monday 12 May 2025.
