As the Sanderling head north our photo competition goes global!

The Sanderlings have had their summer on our beaches are beginning to leave our shores for their return journey to the Arctic.

As these tiny intrepid travellers fly back around the world, we are extending our ‘Snap a Sanderling’ competition around the world!

Do you know someone in another country who might see a sanderling as they journey northward? They could win one of two monthly prizes of a Jimmi Buscombe print of a Sanderling so let them know!

We are also extending the date for any Australian entries in our competition for those lucky enough to spot a Sanderling before they leave.

The observation of flagged Sanderling is an important part of the Discovery Bay Sanderling Tracking Project which is trying to better understand their use of local habitat and their migratory habits to support their conservation.

You can see where the Sanderling regularly fly and have been spotted around the world at the Birdmark website

The winners will be chosen from all images submitted to this competition before 11.59pm AEST on the last day of the month for May to August 2022. Photos should be emailed to: glenelgramsar@ghcma.vic.gov.au
