Spotted a sanderling on the beach?

The sanderling are an amazing migratory shorebird that traverses the globe every year to spend their summers on our south-west Victorian beaches, and our winters up in the arctic circle!

Despite their tiny size (50-70 grams – about the size of a chook egg!) they fly from the top to the bottom of the globe and back again every year … flapping the entire way! They never glide!

If you spot a sanderling on our beaches this summer with a lettered leg tag, and can get a photo, we’d love you to log it into Birdmark so that we know that bird is traversing the globe. When you log the leg tag, you can even see where else it has been spotted – maybe on the norther beaches of China … maybe on a beach in Russia!
